Speech Pathologist

Duties and Responsibilities: Speech language pathologists work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Social communication disorders occur when a person has trouble with the social use of verbal and nonverbal communication.

Salary: The median annual salary is 73,410 USD

Education: Earn a Bachelor's Degree. There is no specific undergraduate major required to become a speech language pathologist. However, a degree in communications or speech and hearing sciences might be most pertinent for a career in speech therapy.

Demand for this particular career: Employment of speech language pathologists is projected to grow 18 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the large baby boom population grows older, there will be more instances of health conditions that can cause speech or language impairments, such as strokes or dementia.

Reflection: No, I wouldn't want to be a speech therapist because it doesn't interest me.
